Every Clear Day So Far
Well, that was fun!
It's been a whirl of cooking in the East Pine Street kitchen. Edo's thesis reading was last Friday and I was in charge of food, which meant a week of evening preparations that included dough rolling, dumpling pleating, freezing, batter whipping, baking, more freezing, meat slicing, marinating, skewering, cake frosting, dumpling frying, grilling...i.e. gerunds and more gerunds. We hosted the reading at my painting studio where studiomate Dale, The Prince of Sound and Lighting, helped to transform the studio into an event worthy space.
Earlier in the week, we had some not entirely unforeseen, um... let's call 'em "edits" to the thesis schedule. We were livid at the time but quickly regained our bearings and proceed unfazed with event planning. Besides, in an effort to battle the waves of overwhelminess I bought this:
and all was well.
And after a week of wintry weather, sunshine felt earned and appreciated, as Edo barbecued skewers, and I fried gyozas, tossed couscous, and frosted cupcakes. Below are scenes from the scene:
Cranberry and pecan couscous:
Homemade shrimp gyozas, cupcakes with obscene buttercream:
The aftermath:
The party continued until the wee hours of the morning.
Whew! what a day and what a night.
Congratulations Eddy! and well done.
