Aside from a lazy float down the river, I can't think of a better way to welcome summer than with a good Gin & Tonic. It's refreshingly cool, with touch of lime and fizz, and a pleasant twinge of bitterness. Below's my version of the highball that signifies summer:
A Fab Gin & Tonic
3 oz. gin I like Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire
1 lime wedge
tonic water
ice
8 oz. glass, a jelly jar works
Fill glass halfway with ice and add 3 oz. of gin. Rub the lime onto the lip of the glass and then squeeze the juice and toss the entire bit into the glass. Top with tonic water and give a stir. Imbibe.
Happy Fourth of July!
Factoid: Quinine the bitter element in tonic water was originally added as a "tonic" to prevent malaria.
